Laem Singh Beach? As you leave Patong Beach and start winding north on Highway 4025, you’ll go through Kamala and climb a hill. At the top of that hill is the parking area for Laem Singh Beach, down below. Laem Singh Beach is usually open during the high-season, but there are times when you’ll find it closed – mostly during the low-season. Don’t be put off if you can’t find the beach on Google Maps, it’s really there, sometimes it disappears because I think people are upset that it’s closed and tell Google it has closed permanently. That’s not the case. It opens and closes at various times. Sometimes you may not be able to reach Laem Singh Beach from the highway using the usual path. However, you can always reach Laem Singh Beach by boat.

Laem Singh Beach Accommodations

Keemala Phuket – very unique villas in cool shapes (I won’t tell you what shape – you should have a look), on the hill overlooking Kamala Beach. Quite close to Laem Singh, and some great places to eat in Kamala. Very high ratings by past guests for everything offered. If you can afford it, this is a great place to stay. Starting at 14,000 THB per night.
Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort – a very nice 5-star beachfront resort on Kamala Bay’s south end. Great for kids with a playroom and nice swimming pools. There is a gym for adults. Starting around 4,000 THB nightly.

Beach Quality: Like a private hideaway – all sides of the beach are very steep hills covered with trees. Very nice sand, and the sand beneath the water is nice. There is of course some trash laying around because that’s to be expected in Thailand. It’s common and there’s no sense getting worked up about it. The beach has many shade trees blocking the sun if it’s too intense.
Ocean Bottom: Mostly sandy. Some rocks at the southern end of the beach.

Beach features: One major feature is there are less people. Enjoy this picture-perfect little beach. Don’t forget to take photos at the view point near the entrance where you can see the beach.

Attractions: No real attractions anywhere nearby, this is a remote beach – no restaurants or resorts here.
Activities: Perfect for swimming or wading. The south end is really good for snorkeling but is a limited area. There is a lot of sea life in this small area – sea stars, seahorses, and nemo fish. Surfing can be good at the south end where the rocks are. This can be a perfect place to surf because few people there!

Picnic possible? Yes
Surfing? The waves at Laem Singh can reach a few meters high (10 ft.+) on good days. Waves travel fast here and are good for short boards or bodyboarders – with or without fins. Tides don’t matter much at this beach as far as wave quality; all tides are fine. There is no place for a rental board here, or lessons, you’ll have to try Saltwater Dreaming Surfboard Shop in Cherng Thale, north of this beach.
Smoking? In November Thailand is cracking down on smoking at beaches around the country. In November 2017 in Phuket, Patong Beach is affected. Soon they expect to make it a country-wide smoking ban – so do stay up to date because fines are high and can include prison time.
Warnings: Large waves come with strong tides. The rip-current can be bad here and on every beach on Phuket Island’s west coast. Do be very cautious.

Laem Singh Beach Phuket – Reasons to Go?

Less People! Though it’s a picture-perfect beach, there are plenty of people who don’t go to Laem Sing because they must pay a fee. That, and the fact that it shows on Google Business as ‘permanently closed’ even at times when it is open. Find out if it’s open per the instructions above, and go see it! Definitely worth the short trip!
Plenty of Shady Trees! The entire area behind the beach is full of big trees offering shade for your picnic or nap time. One extra you should consider bringing on your trip is a parachute fabric hammock that can be setup between two trees!
Snorkeler’s Paradise! Clear and clean water. No need to go far away from the beach, there are fish at your feet as soon as you enter the water. One woman we know found a small squid along with heaps of other marine life during her short snorkeling session. There are few rocks under the water in the middle of the beach, there are some big rocks on the sides – better for snorkeling there. Buy your own gear at Central Festival Phuket before you visit the beaches!
White Sand, Calm Water. During the off-season from May to October the water may be rough. During high-season is best for calm waters. The sand here is really nice, not full of shells that hurt when you walk barefoot on it.
Massage on the Beach! This beach always has massage women to put your muscles at ease with a thorough Thai massage. Some people love them so much, they get massages daily – will you?
